Cheyenne Marie Mize has one of the most haunting voices in the business. Perhaps that's why she was able to adapt 19th century parlor songs into a appealingly modern album with Bonnie "Billy" Prince in Among the Gold last month.

But even with her rustic and gentle sound, Cheyenne can hardly be mistaken for some crooner from a dusty vinyl in the attic. The songs on her debut album Before Lately, dropping October 12, are indie-folk melodies dripping with honey and soul. Her video for "Friend" is dark and unsettling (it is Halloween season).
