A bright idea from Valentino's Spring 2012 runway show.

I can’t lie—I love being tan. (Never à la tanning bed though!) Like a lot of FOAM girls, there’s nothing better to me than a summer full of soaking up rays—albeit with 30 SPF liberally slathered and then re-slathered on throughout the day—at the beach. But while I adore an even, deeply bronzed glow, the threat (and reality) of sunspots and uneven pigmentation is a major bummer. I’m not the only one who feels this way. So many major skincare brands have recently come out with dark spot correctors and brightening treatments that it’s hard to keep track.

Now that summer is dwindling, and I’ve collected as many freckles possible, it’s time to turn focus to lightening things back up so that I don’t turn into an old leather-face lady at 30. Natura Bisse’s Diamond White collection targets uneven pigmentation, acne scars and dark spots with a high concentration of active acid ingredients. I’m excited to see how the latest additions to the line, Clarity Toning Lotion and SPF 50 PA+++, continue to even out my skin. Another great go-to is Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance serum, which harnesses the power of grape seed oil to smooth out the skin tone and make it glow from within. Skyn Iceland’s Arctic Brightening SerumDiorsnow line, like the White Reveal Mask, is excellent for unifying your whole face in one beautiful, bright tone.

But the piece de resistance for me this fall in my search for luminous skin is from one of my favorite-ever brands, Arcona. Their Cranberry Gommage is a classic, but the new Brightening Gommage, especially used in conjunction with the amazing Mandarin Brightening Peel (effective but so gentle!), is a real winner. Using ascorbic and glycolic acids and lightening daisy extract, this one-two punch is a surefire ticket to the kind of radiance usually reserved for diamonds. Shine on!
