Yesterday, beach-goers all over the world clasped hands—but not just those feeling affectionate.

Thousands of activists joined hands at over 150 events in 30 states and 15 countries as part of the 3rd Annual Hands Across the Sand demonstration. Members of the Surfrider Foundation, Sierra Club, Oceana and other organizations came out to peacefully protest the push for expansion of offshore drilling in U.S. waters and challenge elected officials to recognize the Surfrider Foundation's "Three Essential Truths," which claim that offshore drilling will not reduce gas prices nor eliminate America's reliance on foreign oil sources, and could pose a series threat to the environment.
