At first glance, the ThreadSence Summer 2012 lookbook, "Kiss the Sky," is pretty much what you'd expect: A curation of bold prints, bright colors and bohemian flair from both up-and-coming indie designers and long-favored brands. But look again and you'll see a slew of striking summer beauty ideas (and one adorable pony). Here, we share our favorite hair and makeup trends from ThreadSence:

1. Beachy Waves
Messy, undone waves are a hairstyle staple for summer, whether or not you actually have access to the ocean.
Get the Look: Try mixing a few teaspoons of salt with water in spray bottle. Shake and spray on wet or dry hair, scrunching as you go. Let air dry if needed.

2. Braided Updo
We first saw it on a Madewell model this winter, and now the chunky braided updo is a much-needed solution for bad hair days.
Get the Look: If you have long hair, make a side braid, tugging on braided strands for volume. Wrap over your hairline, securing with bobby pins as you go. For shorter hair, french braid the front of your hair and tuck ends under at the nape of your neck, securing with bobby pins.

3. Coral Lips
The orange-red hue is an explosive trend and adds an instant pop of color to even the most monochromatic outfit. We love the darker coral on the model's lips paired with the softer shade in her dress.
Get the Look: Try MAC Cosmetics' lipstick in Lady Danger.

4. Messy French Braid
No longer for the prep school crowd, the French braid gets a much-needed lesson in cool with tons of volume and a few fly aways.
Get the Look: Gather all of your hair to one side of your head, and begin French braiding behind your ear. Continue braiding loosely and finish by spraying ends with a strong-hold gel or hairspray. Pull small pieces of hair out of the braid for an undone look.

5. Plum Lips
Pinkish-purple lip color is surprisingly fresh when paired with bright and light summer pieces. Keep it from looking too polished with a studded collar and a messy bun.
Get the Look: A solid, dark lip color can bleed easily, so line lips with a plum color liner and fill in with a shade like Bobbi Brown's Blackberry.

We're giving away a pair of printed pants from the ThreadSence "Kiss the Sky" lookbook! Enter to win now.
