Let's be real here: Mermaids are bitchin' creatures. They swim in the ocean all day, they never have to worry about shaving and they put even the best jewelry stackers to shame.

Newport Beach-based Carly Bennett, a marketing coordinator at Roxy, can relate. Besides being a mermaid no less than four times for Halloween, she also crafts beautifully composed crowns. Bennett molds each piece from chicken wire, which means a "manicure never lasts very long," then encrusts them with shells and other mer-items sourced from a lifetime of collecting and beach visits.

"I've always been a hoarder at heart," Carly admits. "It's such a release for me to know I'm sharing my finds with someone else." Besides clearing some shelf space, Carly also loves knowing that her crowns will be shipped across the globe. "I can't always travel all the time, but it's like pieces of me, of my heart, are going to those places."
