Sleigh Bells

HOME BASE: Brooklyn
LATEST JAM: The intense, beat-heavy album Treats
INFLUENCES: Justice, Major Lazer
FAVORITE TOOL: reFX Nexus Soft Synth “It’s the foundation of our sound. We start there and build up, stacking synths on top of each other.”

Sleigh Bells is one of those unlikely collaborations that yields something surprisingly awesome. Producer and songwriter Derek Miller was actually a member of the Florida hardcore band Poison the Well before he moved to NYC and started trolling for a female vocalist to realize his beat-centric vision. Enter Alexis Krauss, the other half of the Brooklyn band du jour. As for their computer-heavy sound, she says, “Our critics have said having an iPod or laptop on stage is cheating, but Derek made all that music.”
