Double Layered Long Umbrella, Cape-Coat by Wet and Wendy

With all due respect to Gene Kelly, we’re not the type to twirl around telephone poles at the first sign of a downpour. Maybe that’s because as residents of typically bone-dry Southern California, we’re clueless when it comes to dressing for wetter weather. Lucky for us, Melbourne-based Wet and Wendy has come to our rescue with a small debut range of simple, functional rainwear that’s seeped in classic style and intelligent design. “Our products are designed to make you look forward to the rain,” says founder and designer Anna Martino, “Everyone needs a little lightheartedness in their days–rain, hail or shine.” To fill that tall order, Anna uses seam taping and waterproofing to help water slip right off each piece in the “Love the Rain” collection, which includes two solid colored cape coats and two umbrellas, one folding and one with a curved, hand-painted wooden handle. Rain gear that keeps us dry sans rubber ducky yellow and polka dots? Oh, what a glorious feeling.
