Dressing for West Coast autumns can be tricky. On one hand, our weather is unseasonably warm while our East Coast pals seem to be adding more layers to their ensembles each day. On the other hand, we’re often left yearning for cooler temps so that we can slip into those oh-so-cozy sweaters, coats and tights.

While it may not be cold enough to break out the sleek pea coats, fall’s hottest item—the poncho—is a happy medium for those that want to dress for the season but also for California. From Burberry’s high-fashion pieces to the versatile looks from Nasty Gal and Urban Outfitters, we’ve found three pretty ponchos that are sure to ward off any cold snap without sacrificing style.

Burberry’s Colour Block Check Blanket Poncho ($1,395) isn’t just a garment; it’s an investment. Made in Scotland, the wool and cashmere piece is inspired by equestrian blankets, and is sure to last for many fall and winters to come.
