All Tied Up
The search for sandals that are both on-trend and super-comfortable can feel like trying to track down a unicorn. “I can never find a pair that have fun, pretty colors and detail, so the idea of being able to customize my own was exciting,” says Suzanne Marchese, FOAM contributing editor. This easy DIY requires little more
than embellishments and a $35 pair of belly-dancing sandals. “I chose to mix gold with bright hues because that screams warm weather to me,” says Marchese of the finished boho-chic soles. “This is a shoe you can take on vacation and wear with all your outfits that show off your legs!”
LACE-UP SANDALS, 2 YARDS EACH OF 3 TYPES OF METALLIC ROPE OR EMBELLISHED TRIM (FOR THE NEW LACES), 4 TASSELS, 8 INCHES OF RHINESTONE TRIM, NEEDLE, THREAD, SCISSORS, TAPE, E6000 GLUE
Cut the ankle straps off the sandals and remove the laces. Measure three lengths
of rope and trim against the original laces and cut to the same length. Tape the three sections together on one end (discarding the original laces) and braid them together.
Once your braid is complete, add a little glue to bind the ends together.
When the glue is dry, attach a tassel to each end with a few stitches using a needle and thread.
Dab E6000 glue around the tassel to add the rhinestone trim.
Attach the trim, wrapping it around the tassel two full times.
Re-lace the sandals with your colorful metallic laces, starting at the toe.
