Where did you draw inspiration from for the 2012 collection?
The desert and beaches of Baja California, Mexico. The colors and sparkling textures of the sand dunes, and the turquoise ocean.

Which runway trend really inspired you this season?
I would have to say the trend towards exoticism in prints and minimalism in shapes.

If you had to pick just one, what’s your favorite story from the 2012 collection and why?
Definitely the SLEEK and CHIC collection– it’s my personal favorite because of the color palette of rich earth tones and metallic gold. The best part is that the fabric doesn’t just look and feel amazing– it is actually made of 100 percent recycled nylon fiber. I worked for three years with mills in Italy, Canada, and California to develop an ecologically responsible swimwear fabric that also meets my aesthetic requirements.

What colors did you see yourself gravitating toward most for the 2012 collection?
I just spent a week down in Sayulita, Mexico last month, and I was addicted to my SMOKE, CAYENNE, and MOONLIGHT MAUVE bikinis! And that says a lot because typically I'm a LBB (little Black Bikini) girl, all the way.

Vitamin A is constantly in the news, a lot of the time for your celebrity fans. Who would you like to see wear a Vitamin A design?
I would be honored and excited to contribute to V magazine or have Kate Moss or Daria wear my suits.

What’s one item you can’t live without at the beach?
Organic cold pressed coconut oil (and an umbrella)!
