Hi FOAM readers! My name’s Susan and I’m a blogger over at InStyleSwimwear.com. Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll be reporting on what's new in swim this year from an insider's perspective.

Now that you’re in the loop, I couldn’t think of a better way to launch the series (as well as the new year) than with a 2012 swimwear trend report.

2012 Top Swim Trends

Bold Colorblocking
By now you’ve probably noticed the bold colorblock trend that’s popping up everywhere. Whether you prefer the colorful clashing look or a sleeker, more subtle combination, it's definitely our number one trend!

Fab Fringe
Everyone’s favorite swimwear trend from 2011 is back and better than ever for 2012! Sexy fringe details add a laid-back, bohemian flair to halter tops, monokinis, ponchos and dresses.

Orange Everything
This season’s “it” color is right on point with Pantone’s 2012 pick: Orange is the hottest hue for the 2012 swimwear season. Whether you opt for soft fruit-inspired shades or spicy cayenne-infused colors, there’s a perfect shade of orange for every skin tone.

Luxe Lace
For those who love that flirty, feminine look, this swimwear trend’s for you. This season, a number of swimsuits and cover-ups feature delicate lace details. Some styles even feature faux lace-inspired fabrics that are smooth to the touch!

Animal Prints + Color
For 2012, the classic animal print trend collides with color to create some unique and eye-popping swimwear styles! Look for your favorite animal prints in shades of orange, aqua, purple and more.

FOAM is kicking off the swimwear buying season with more trend reports, guest bloggers, and designer interviews. Check back for more!
