We have a girl crush on Alix Brown. Her style is as if the 60’s and 70’s had a love child and her hair would even make Brigitte Bardot do a double take. Alix intrigues us, she grew up surrounded by music and fashion and the outcome is one bodacious babe that slays the DJ booth. There is something special about a woman that has perfected the winged eyeliner – at least we think so.
Keep on scrolling for our Q+A with Alix and make sure to work your way to the mix she made exclusively for our foamy readers. It will be sure to get your blood pumping!
Foam: In three words what describes Alix Brown the best?
Live. Fast. Die.
Foam: Describe your personal style and your favorite 3 fashion icons?
My personal style is kind of all over the place. I’m into the 60’s and 70’s and like to mix them together with a twist of modern. My fashion icons are Catherine Deneuve, Gram Parsons, and David Bowie.
Foam: You have lived in many places, but what is it about the South that pulls on your heartstrings the most?
The food. No one makes better food than the south. I dream of the BBQ from Memphis on a daily basis.
Foam: You love vintage, what designers and era do you love the most and have in your personal collection?
I love 60’s and 70’s Ossie Clark, Andre Courreges and Loris Azzaro. I have an Ossie dress that was a present. I wish j had more, but his pieces are hard to find. I also really love vintage Valentino and Gucci. They can do no wrong.
Foam: What is your favorite go to dress in your private vintage collection?
My Celia Birtwell Ossie Clark dress.
Foam: You’ve grown up working in record stores so we’re sure you have an impressive collection. What are some of your favorite albums?
Love – Forever Changes
Lee Hazlewood – Cowboy In Sweden
Big Star – #1 Record
Chrisma – Chinese Restaurant
The GTO’s (Girls Together Outrageously) – Permanent Damage
Lou Reed – Coney Island Baby
Soft Boys – Underwater Moonlight
The Seeds – S/T
Leonard Cohen – The Future
Foam: Aside from being musically gifted, you are blessed with style. What is one staple item every girl should have hanging in their closet right now?
A guitar strap.
Foam: You have been building up your wardrobe for some time now, what is the one item you own that you could never part with?
My 77 Fender Musicmaster bass.
Foam: You have created us a rather rad summer mix, did you pick certain songs for a reason?
They’re songs I’ve been listening to a lot lately when I’ve been walking the mean streets of NYC. Hope you enjoy.
Foam: What are your plans this Summer?
Playing lots of music, DJing and traveling a lot.
Foam: If you could give one piece of advice to young girls striving to follow their dreams, what would it be?
Don’t put out.
